We have been blessed with so much. The greatest gift that we have received is Jesus. During this Christmas Season, one way that we can practice sharing God’s love with a hurting world is to reach out to our neighbors in need.

We want to encourage our families to choose one of two ways to generously give to the students and staff of Circle View Elementary School and Mesa View Middle School. We have been working to build a strong partnership with each of these schools and both have reached out to us in this Christmas season with needs. What better way to bring God’s hope and love than to help the students and faculty of these hardworking schools?

Memory Verse:
As a family, read the verse below together. What does it mean? If we trust and follow Jesus, what responsibility do we have to bring this same Good News through love and good deeds to the world? Memorize this verse and think about how much love God has shown you.

Luke 4:18-19 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come.”

Activity: Reverse Advent Calendar
Typically an Advent Calendar is a way to count down the days to Christmas by receiving a treat each day. This year, instead of receiving a treat, we want to give a treat the students and faculty of both Circle View Elementary School and Mesa View Middle School. As a family, pick up a tub from the Serve Table on Sunday. Each day you will be prompted to pray for the recipient or provide a needed item. On Christmas Eve, bring your basket back to church and place it under the Christmas tree. Early in the new year these baskets will be delivered to Circle View Elementary School or Mesa View Middle School.

This is a great way to practice many of the things we have been learning from God’s Word: Service, Faith and Action, and sharing God’s love with a hurting world. When we know who Jesus is, how can we not be moved to compassion to help others with their physical and spiritual needs? We have been blessed to be a blessing, and these baskets are one way that we can pray for, share God’s love with, and meet the needs of those in our community.

Alternate Activity: Advent Love List
In lieu of participating in the Reverse Advent Calendar, consider retrieving an Advent Love List from the Serve Table on Sunday. On this list are a catalogue of items that both Circle View Elementary School and Mesa View Middle School have listed as items that their students are in need of this school year. Please pray about purchasing any number of items listed on the Advent Love List. On Christmas Eve, bring your items back to church and place it under the Christmas tree. Early in the new year these Reverse Advent Calendar baskets and the Advent Love List items will be delivered to Circle View Elementary School or Mesa View Middle School.
